An art museum or art gallery is a building or space for the exhibition of art, usually visual art. Museums can be public or private, but what distinguishes a museum is the ownership of a collection. An art gallery also has a stable of artists unified by some criteria such as tone or feeling of the artworks; a common background of the artists; or a shared style, technique, medium or similar outlook. The art gallery is in the business to promote its artists and sell their artworks. It displays work of artistic importance from renowned artists and makes them available for public viewing either temporarily or permanently. Fine art galleries can act as cultural go-to places within a city and in turn, attract art lovers and tourists to both the art galleries and the city as a tourist destination. Attracting tourists to these art galleries can in turn boost the local economy. Art galleries educate children, youth, and adults alike.
